A journey that has only just started.
GAIN (Girls Are INvestors) Sweden is a charity on a mission to diversify the investment landscape. We know that the talent is out there, sometimes it just needs a helpful nudge.
We change that by providing accessible education, internship opportunities, and the role models needed to climb the ladder. We aren’t just talking about representation; we’re building the pipeline that makes it happen.
GAIN Sweden is the first international venture of GAIN UK, which has been operating across England and Wales since 2019. In the last 7 years GAIN UK has reached over 63,000 students and they currently work directly with 60+ investment firms.
We’re excited to bring this important initiative to the Swedish market, and enable young women in Sweden to benefit from the broad foundation of online resources that GAIN offers in the UK, and take part in a range of local in-person events and programs that GAIN runs in Sweden.
OUR MISSION
At GAIN, we are committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of women and non-binary investment professionals, providing a dynamic platform for learning, career development, and transformative networking opportunities.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to expand our impact across thousands of women students annually, driving a powerful shift in investment industry representation and encouraging greater participation in investment careers.
By fostering access, support, and opportunity, we aim to redefine the future of the field.
Why our work matters
There is still much to do to achieve gender diversity in the industry, and the statistics of today clearly shows why;
- Less than a third of investment professionals within Private Equity and Venture Capital are women, and at the senior level only 17% are women, according to Level 20.
- On the asset management side, only 8% of Swedish funds are managed by a female fund manager, and that number is actually decreasing. There are more Swedish fund managers named Johan, than there are female fund managers in total (!).
- According to a survey we conducted together with Bain & Co in Q4 2024, female university students are notably less likely to pursue a career in investments than their male peers.
- Old assumptions about the industry being an arena for men prevails and affects women’s career choices. Interviews with HR and TA professionals in the industry confirms that a large majority of applicants to internships and entry level positions are men.
We exist to drive the change from the bottom up, and you can join us.
